In January 2026 we released an enlightening report - Beyond Shelter: Benchmarking UK New Builds for Health. It makes the case that physical and mental health are deeply impacted by our homes, with serious consequences for public health and the economy, and yet, a huge proportion of new build developments in the UK are still failing to prioritise this. We highlight where the current policies and regulations are failing us and how the Government's plans to build 1.5 million new homes could lead to unhealthy homes if developers across the country don't adopt health-focused design principles or frameworks like the HHC to future-proof their assets and improve the health of occupants.
