Frequently Asked Questions about The HHC
What types of residential developments can be assessed?
The Healthy Home Checklist is suitable for all types of residential developments: apartments, houses, co-living schemes, Build to Rent schemes, PRS developments, as well as purpose-built student accommodation.
How long does the process take?
The assessment process is significantly faster than Certifications, taking around 4 hours to complete a guided Gap Analysis or guided self-verification online, with minimal follow up actions or time required following this.
What is the minimum number of homes that can be assessed?
There is no minimum requirement, however, the assessment tool is generally aimed at developments with a number of homes rather than one-off houses.
How is it verified?
The criteria is self-verified by your professional team. Architects, MEP designers and operational staff select the criteria that is relevant to each home and provide a professional signature and liability for the data provided. The professional’s name, official occupation and organisation is recorded for each criteria verified as well as confirmation of PI cover.
What is the cost of assessment?
There is a base fee payable for registration of £3,500 plus a fee of £100 for each home assessed under the checklist.
How long is it valid for?
For private sale units the assessment is valid post completion up to the point of sale. For institutionally owned or managed assets, the assessment is valid for an initial year. Following this, there is an annual form to complete with a small recurring fee per home, with the option to add or remove applicable criteria per home.
At what stage can the assessment be done?
The assessment can be completed at any RIBA Stage. This can be part of a guided preliminary review with recommendations made at any RIBA design stage – or used for completed schemes or refurbishments.
Is the assessment suitable for refurbishments and existing buildings?
Yes! The checklist can be used for both new developments, completed schemes and renovations, so long as you have the relevant technical information available and a professional team member to verify the criteria.
